IMPORTANT
|
There will not be any chance of this issue being discussed or decided on Monday [1/26] because the Board of Selectmen agreed to push the issue to a future meeting due to the amount of interest shown.
|
The issue has been dropped from the agenda thanks to the huge amount of interest generated. Great job everyone. Until it gets brought up again, the road is open.
It goes without saying, but please continue to stay off snowmobile trails. ;)

I am not mad at all the sleds... I think it is pretty cool and I even thought of buying one. I just think this one guy, that I have never even met, is just acting like a bit of a renegade or something trying to change things that are over any one persons power.
I just think it's silly that he wants to close down a class 6 road... I'd say if it's closed, it should be closed to ALL including his club too... so just stop this foolish garbage and keep it open to all... I think Barrington should worry more about the important things going on for their town, NOT the use of a PUBLIC road!!!!!
This guy's willingness to risk losing the trail / road is strange. I would think He would want to keep it open. I'd love to see either it stay open to all or close it even for THEM!
I don't think They should get any special treatment, thats all...
AND before anyone says anything, I don't want to see OLD GREEN HILL ROAD CLOSE because it is within 10 minutes to my front door. I would call it my "home trail".
I feel I have a special bond to it, just like a few others do.
I do NOT have any hard feelings towards people who enjoy the sport of snowmobiling.
My previous message was meant to state that I lost respect for that ONE guy's outlook on the road that we should all be sharing. If we abused it when it was conditioned for them I'd see his point whole-heartedly, but that isnt the case. Also, I feel bad for those who have to deal with him in his club. I just think he is a bad apple.
So not to upset anyone anymore about this issue, I'll stop posting about it until it has an outcome.
This whole thing is why I love this country, we can all have our own thoughts and state them. I am sure Barrington will do the right thing! I have complete faith in this whole matter.
So until after the meeting i'm done venting about this...
Thank you all, not just on ExploringNH.com 4x4 forum, but to all who have read about this and helped by taking the time to reach out to the town of Barrington and voice your feelings!
God Bless!

They most likely will not give a date. The issue is pretty much dead.

Its good that its dead but we might have made a new enemy and will be under the microscope from now on!
I know we always do the right thing and try to educate others but now we will have to double our efforts.

How will we have made a new enemy because of this? That snowmobile club hates anything with wheels, and did long before we had ever heard of them. They added this to the agenda, and without us doing this, it would have made it to the meeting, and been voted on with no opposition.
We did what was right, and we kept this road open.

I don't think we were under the radar really. The NEA is aware of us and so are several towns and everyone that does know about us likes us. This one guy and his club were the only ones that did not like us and this whole stunt of theirs back fired. If anything this helped us in showing that we are a large community of RESPONCIBLE wheelers. This is a good thing on a lot of levels.

Thanks to all, especially Ryan, for stepping up.
I'm just bummed that I live right up the road from the place, yet I've never wheeled on it. I missed the announcement of the cleanup date, darnit.

i don't get how they could be so mad at the only group that cared enough about the trail to spend hours cleaning it up (I was there and boy did we remove a lot of junk), i just don't get peoples thought process sometimes, but I'm glad that the issues been dropped for now. Its the first place my Dad managed to get the cherokee stuck (guess who had to attach the tow strap)

It's not too often you think of your opinion and vote as really making a difference, but this seems different. I want to thank everyone who took the time to sign and send a letter/ email and for Ryan for keeping us in the loop and bringing this to the forefront.
Hopefully the club does not decide to show up at another meeting and try to work it into the schedule again. On the good side, it seems that every person who wrote got a personal response from the town administrator. I'm sure since she has committed to letting everyone know if the item hits the agenda again, we will have another massive wave of protest.

First off I signed my petition and sent my e-mail...Haven't posted in a while, but always follow what is going on. Just wanted to say what a great group this is and all that love to wheel. I wheel, I sled, I hike, I bike and hunt. I just love the outdoors. Soup u hit the nail on the head above, this was one battle won in what will always be an ongoing war It is a shame that there are a few in this world that spoil or try to spoil the enjoyment of all and bring harsh feeelings against a group they represent. We as people usually just associate the one with the group.
I'm very pleased to see the comradery that was shown by all and wanted to give a special thanks to Sean and Steve for introducing me to ENH and especially Bear, for really introducing my to the sport in this area on this very road. Thank you Brian and all
