Thread: JLee's 2005 Lexus GX470

    Default JLee's 2005 Lexus GX470

This is my second GX - I sold the other one when I moved from AZ to NJ...then promptly bought another one because I missed it. The ongoing list of stuff will be here: https://squashingrocks.com/rocksquasher2/

I've owned two Tacomas, a Tundra, a built 80, and now two 120's. I've found that my preferred trips are more overland-style than hardcore offroad and my vehicle choice/build style has trended towards that over the last few years. This one has a mild lift, ~32" tires and a hidden winch. I'll probably do sliders and aluminum skids eventually, but that's about where the major plans end. Tweaking will happen over time...auxiliary wiring for 12v in the cargo area (stock just has an AC inverter plug), some extra backup lights, and if I get enough time I might build a swingout tire carrier integrated with the factory bumper. My goal is to keep it simple, (relatively) inexpensive, and safely within manufacturer GVWR specs.

    Almost done now. :)

Next up is to finish wiring the chase bar, install a swingout, and replace my skid control ECU which seems to have died. That's...pretty much it, really.

Pretty much done now, though I'll probably go dual battery + aux tank within the next year.

Nice build, swingout looks great! I notice a solar panel on your roof. Do you leave that up there all the time to keep batteries charged?

I use that to help keep my Goal Zero going (I have a 400 lithium that runs my fridge) if I'm not driving much. I may pick up a charge controller and use it on batteries once the dual setup is done - having the flexibility to do either would be nice.
