Those are great pictures! How much did the recent rain effect the roads you were on?

Looks like you guys had a great trip. Did you manage to make it up Mt Washington? Was that where the transmission issue happened?

Rain.... you could say it rained.... Rain effected the roads heavily!

First off, thank you to Ryan for of course planning this event and putting together detailed tracks and data to follow. We unfortunately got the news Thursday night when the rest of us were already in Pittsburg, that Ryans vehicle had issues. I took lead as I had the tracks loaded but it was a group effort for some turns we had to make. When you are that far North the terrain is very different and some spots are heavily overgrown as you will see in the pictures, so choosing the correct way can get confusing; we made a few turnarounds needless to say.

We had an AWESOME group of people! Many good times were had, many beers were drank, many stories told. I would do it over again!

The rain caused problems in some spots as the ground was very soft and the rocks were very slick. Traction was not our friend.

We did make it to the peak of Mt Washington! It was a perfect day for it although at the very top you only got quick views with the passing clouds, but down the Mt just a little you could see for miles. It is a true test to your vehicle, we had some minor overheating on the way up and stinky brakes on the way down. There is one section where the pavement ends and it is dirt where you cannot fit 2 cars wide because the rain washed out the edges, and you have people traveling the opposite direction; being careful and taking your time is a must.

I have over 200 pics and vids that I am going to get uploaded soon.

I'm really hoping we get to go up next weekend. I have been up the Cog Railway in the summer, but have not taken the auto road. On the descent - stick shift & engine braking sufficient to keep brakes cool and available for emergency use?

Yes for descent id even suggest 4lo. Of course not every vehicle that goes up has 4WD, so they tell you to be in 1st gear going up and down, but we were between 2nd and 3rd gear the most time in 4lo. Engine breaking is your friend.

Oh and your comment about transmission issue; no that happened on Thursday when Ryan was headed north to Pittsburg. The only overheating we had on the way up the MT was a heavy land rover; my needle was a little over 210 but it was not overheating.

The transmission issue actually ended up being an air filter issue. I was happy for a cheap and easy fix. The air filter was so dirty that it collapsed on itself under the vacuum from the engine, causing restricted/blocked airflow and no power. I checked the air filter a little while ago and it was pretty decent. It got dirty fast!

Default Day 2 Mt Washington Auto Road

    DAY 2

After leaving Gorham we headed up the Mt. Washington Access Road

The dirt section of the road had eroded from the rain, leaving barely enough room for 2 vehicles to pass at spots

You can see a lower portion of the road down below

    Reaching the top parking lot
